HeroestheSeries.com: Heroes Season 4 Premiere Ratings Are Lowest Yet

  • Nick S. · 2 months ago
Last night's viewer total were very low last night because House premiered at the same exact time for 2 hours too. Isn't it obvious that that would draw a lot of viewers away? I'm sure many House fans are also Heroes fans, just House comes first for most of them. I'm really not worried, the first two episodes were actually pretty good, and give me lots of hope for the rest of the season.

Regardless, I DVR'd both House and Heroes and watched both of them. Very good premieres on both sides.
  • Gav136 · 1 month ago
maybe if they didnt stop contradicting themselves more people would watch it. Whats the deal with peter petrelli. Just give him his powers back which he should already have from touching sylar at the end of last year and please stop concentrating so much on the deaf girl that can see sound, All of my friends have stopped watching heroes and unless tim kring gets his finger out and starts to make sense with his story lines, Im gonna have to stop watching it myself

What! I love Heroes. Saddness. I really really really really hope they don't cancel the show! It's the only thing I look forward on Mondays. It's the only thing good about that day!
  • navygater · 2 months ago
that is exactly how I feel knowing Heroes is going to be on gets me through every Monday!
  • barsley · 2 months ago
    isn't 6 million viewars a lot?
  • daniel416 · 2 months ago
well if they cancel heroes after this season there goes television as there's nothing else good on TV anymore. Reality tv has ruined the aspect of good television and HEROES is the best show this decade; if NBC cancels HEROES because of low ratings then there's no reason to watch tv anymore, PLEASE DON'T CANCEL HEROES!!!!!!!!
  • jameswalters · 2 months ago
Lowest numbers because we didn't even know it aired.... advertise a little. JW from SF, CA
  • bakakaiju · 2 months ago
Nothing to be alarmed about, as surely NBC knew this would happen. House, Dancing with the Hasbeens and Monday Night Foosball are all ratings giants.

Something to consider is this - what exactly does NBC have that could have done better than Heroes? The Thursday night comedy shows are already trying to hold Survivor at bay.The remainder of the NBC lineup doesn't exactly inspire confidence, even Law & Order.

Bottom line is that NBC is looking to get the leftovers market from what the other shows are pulling in on Mondays, so unless Heroes (and Chuck in the Spring) start losing in a more distant manner, they're safe in their niche.

As a side note, it would be nice if the folks at NBC would take notice of the void getting ready to be left open by Syfy's surprise hit Warehouse 13. That timeslot seems to have done well at holding a genre market...
  • unsunghero · 2 months ago
Gonad up, chicken littles!! Is the sky always falling for Heroes fans? I'm not trying to bury my head in the sand on the facts, but it seems like every time the show doesn't do quite as well as fan expectation, someone's gotta call 'cancel'! Last time I checked, this show wasn't on Fox! Okay, so the show isn't 'Lost', or 'House', or even 'Dancing With The Stars', but I'm pretty sure the show is pulling its weight and earning its keep on the network. In fact, as horrible as this sounds, if things REALLY hit the fan with the show, I can see it being picked up by Syfy and continued there (anyone remember Sliders?)----but that's not going to happen, because as many of you have said, NBC more or less needs this show, and its really popular overseas (not to mention stateside mostly through newmedia, and of course, the dubious distinction of most pirated television show--which is an honor in itself if you think about it.......or don't.)
The long and short of the matter is, if this season really does redeem the show, the numbers will come.
  • jessicasgrosso · 2 months ago
I agree, at the end of the Premier, I read that Heroes was the most illegally downloaded show on the internet on Rotten Tomatoes. I do think that they're totally destroying the whole premise of Peter Petrelli's character that they worked so hard to build up BUT! Now they've added to the plot in the last 5 mins of last nights show, so it doesn't really matter much longer, i guess.
  • unsunghero · 2 months ago
Actually, I like Peter's character development. I honestly think he's one of the most well-developed characters in the show, granted, his maturation isn't as heavily showcased as much as say Sylar's or even Matt's these days. I liked seeing him struggle with issues of family and trust. Let's face it, between his brother not supporting him in Season One, Adam misguiding in Season 2, his brother AND mother conspiring and withholding secrets (some, but not all of which directly impacted him) in Season 3...I'd say that by season 4, Peter is making a rather respectable decision in wanting to be left alone, and by right, I at least feel he could carry more of a chip on his shoulder about it all, but the fact that he doesn't still says a lot about Pete. Whether it's me overanalyzing, a sign of careful and deliberate characterization by the writers, or perhaps a fluke on their part, I find Peter to be a more tempered form of who he was all along: a caring person who does in fact believe in the goodness of humanity and wants to help people to the best of his ability. Of course, my assessment does not factor in the whole "Petrelli Guilt" which does seem to be implied to be a motivation for his good deeds as a paramedic...
  • jessicasgrosso · 2 months ago
I agree with you but doesn't Peter get whatever ability someone he comes in contact with has? After he accidentally touched the man with the compass this week, he also touched Clair and I believe they've done that a few times b4. And Syler touches something and gets the memory/flashback, but ONLY with certain things. The writers and creaters est. the rules and now they're breaking them with Peter and a few others. It's getting a little old.
  • unsunghero · 2 months ago
I thought that maybe he just learned how to adapt to his new ability to the point where he has to consciously want to absorb the power. My theory really hinges on how the writers treat Peter's interractions with Emma (or whatever the deaf girl's name is). If he accidentally absorbs her power, my theory is bunk. If he somehow consciously acquires it--don't know WHY he'd do that...then maybe I could be on to something.
  • Gav136 · 1 month ago
peter's powers are crap. They need to bring him back to the way he was with all the powers at once. The invisability, the flying the time travelling and of course the SCAR.
I say sort it out tim and bring peter back to his normal and kickass self
  • goddelusion · 2 months ago
**** hiro ruined the show! i hate his stupid big face. ****!!!!!
  • yankeecap · 2 months ago
Guys Heroes is just victim of the capitalism system, the trends, this show is my favorite show on TV a lot of my friends were wacthing it when it was "The Thing" to watch but they didn't truly love this show thy paid attention because it was fresh and new but they didn't get the true meaning of this show so the were lost by the story, the plots , and now they say its "old news'',That's our generation , consumers , buyers just waiting for the next new thing , BUT i love heroes man like everything its not perfect but still its the best show about people having powers because it was difficult to evolve this show and keep the original form of the season one i had a suggestion for all the fans about the show what heroes should do to brings the ratings back its to just restart the series a new season one like a restart in time so it would be a new season one

What if all of us Heroes fans each send in a dollar once a month lol ???? Maybe that will make up for the low ratings haha how about it NBC???

cool can you pay for me. cause i dont care enough about this show to do that
  • Herogirl · 2 months ago
i love this show and check in ev tuesday to read the recaps and watch the show (cos i live in aus)
and i will be soooooo sad if its canned. oh and if you want to read about another hero (ok villain) then click on my name.
  • ppg0270 · 2 months ago
I will have to agree that that was my last show that I would be watching of this garbage. The first season was great, but now they are just throwing out crap.....waste of an hour and 30 minutes of my life.....:(
  • dword · 2 months ago
I've been watching heroes from the beginning and i must say it's getting kinda retarded like prison break did. So no surprise there, even though the show is cool and i absolutely love every character in heroes, it starts to suck.
  • mack786 · 2 months ago
It doesn't matter it is a sort of a nerd show. A complex nerd show always gets lower ratings than reality TV or whatever other BS the stupid masses tune into nowadays.

I think they should move it to the sci-fi slot if they want higher Monday night ratings. Put it on Friday at 8pm or 9pm. It's generally considered the death slot as shows are certain to get less viewers but a lot of nerd shows belong in that slot.
  • Name · 2 months ago
As the ratings are for the US alone I don't think it's THAT big a deal. The show airs all over the world and many countries haven't aired the new season yet.
  • navygater · 2 months ago
You have a very good point but being an American I can tell you right now that dumb money hungry suits at NBC don't always take other countries into concideration.... We just have to push for our show!!! I have hooked 2 new people on Heroes so far this season!!!
  • kinggenesis · 2 months ago
i called it. i new this would happen and all you hated on me for pointing out the flaws in heroes saying that there werent any. well about 13 million people who didnt watch felt the same way i did. last season sucked so bad it ruined it for this season. they should just do a spin off with sylar and matt and put it on comedy central. that will do good for 2 seasons and then tim can try this again with a brand new ...............writing staff...
  • Tarot1 · 2 months ago
I like House, but I stopped watching when they moved it to Mondays becuase I didn't want to miss any of Heroes.

I'm hoping for an upsurge in ratings. I know some got excited after they heard what other fans had to say or saw some of the carnival.
  • mama03 · 2 months ago
I didn't realize it was a 2 hour episode until I accidentally found it at about 8:15...maybe that has something to do with it...
  • unsunghero · 2 months ago
I bet that did have some small part in it, come to think about it.
I say new timeslot may have shaken off a few legitimate fans; season 3 may have left a bad taste in the mouths of some middle-of-the-road folk, and if you haven't noticed, it's REALLY popular to hate on this show, even in news entertainment, which I assumed was supposed to be unbiased in general. Heroes seems to be among the most criticized shows in recent memory, which I'm sure has had an unfortunate toll in keeping away potential viewers as well.
  • laz · 2 months ago
yea heroes should be finished off really. the plot is weak, the actors poor, and the characters storylines are pathetic.

series 1 was a promising start, but the show had its brief moment as a glorified tv show worth watching.
from then on, the writing has gradually become cliched, dull and filled with plot holes.

make a finale as gud as series 1 then give up, Kring.
  • dozer420 · 2 months ago
Sounds like you havent been interested in Heroes since season 1......so why did you bother after that...something obviously pulled you in and made you wanna watch after that......Just out of curiosity can you act? Can you write really well?
  • quiqui · 2 months ago
I just want this dumb show to end. I am SO HAPPY its last. BARELY over One Tree Hill...PATHETIC
  • dozer420 · 2 months ago
Well, not really sure what to say other than what I've said in the past when they mention ratings.....They are an archaic system that needs to be heavily updated for the new generation....These rating systems literally only count who is in front of the tv on that channel during that time slot...They never take into account people who DVR or Tivo and watch later or the next day....I am also willing to bet that A lot of Heroes fans streamed from the internet later that night or the next day, and as much as a problem as it is A lot of people who couldn't watch probably just illegally downloaded it, Or if it was available for legal download thats a possibility. I just think its time for these stupid ratings systems to piss off. WHAAAAAAAA I can't properly track viewers WHAAAAAAAA who gives a damn, people watch Heroes one way or another, Dancing with the stars sucks A** and shouldn't be on t.v Thought you all should know that!
  • Terrormaster · 2 months ago
I saw a couple people mention, in one manner or another, what amounts to rebooting the series. And personally I don't think thats too far off from whats happening now.

This whole thing with Hiro's bucket list and going back to correct all his mistakes, etc. feels like they're using this season to push things back to a point that practically nullifies season 2 and 3 ever having had happened - ie: redeeming the show in a lot of fans eyes. Hiro is our big fat reset button.
  • anna1213 · 2 months ago
to be honest i dont no why they didnt put in on when house wasnt on. They could of put it on another day. I love heroes and i have just downloaded it cos im from the uk, and it is a major show over here, yeah maybe it doesnt get many viewers but all the people i no who watch it a loyal fans and love the show. Heroes cant end ever its the best show on tv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We also need to remember that a lot of people were hosting premiere night veiwing parties. I was at a party that had about forty people, and I know of at least eleven other similar parties.
Also, six million viewers is where the ratings left off last season, so unlike previous seasons, we didn't lose any viewers over the haitus, and the fan response I'm seeing is mostly very positive.
To top it off, NBC is now looking at factors other than initial ratings, such as Live + 7, where they take in to account not only the live veiwing, but the DVR veiwings within seven days of live broadcast.

Let the show rest in peace. GAWD I hope this is the LAST Season. Unfortunately, I think next season will be its last after this season fails.

You know if you dont like it you dont have to watch or comment. You are proof of how remedial people can be on the internet. If you think the show died in season 2 then how come 2 seasons later you still waste your breathe complaining...why haven't you moved on? Go watch lost and leave Heroes to the people who actually understand it.

a fan of Heroes in Thailand here.
i am suggesting that the current rating system might not accurate these days.
i wacthed the show 2-3 hours after you guys in america watched it live on tv.
well, i'm not the only one who has been doing such thing for sure.
  • mkselucas · 2 months ago
I've been a HEROES fan since the first episode. In spite of the highs and lows, I've stuck with it. I bought the DVD sets for the first two seasons. However, I'm not an obsessive fan---I go to the official website sometimes, I read the graphic novels, and I check out 9th Wonders and this site every once in a while. But I don't do so regularly, just every few months.

I'm saying all of this to establish the fact that I'm an average fan...not a 150% dedicated fan, but certainly not a casual one, either.

    And I missed the premiere.

Why? Because I didn't know it was airing this week. In the past, there always seemed to be a great deal of promotion leading up to the premiere. There were web ads. Media stories. Commercials on TV. Maybe that happened again this year, but if it did, I completely missed it.

    matt
  • mama03 · 2 months ago
I knew of the premier, cuz I looked it up only... but I didn't know it was 2 hours, I only accidentally found it at about 8:15... I wonder if I am the only one who didn't know it was 2 hours and if that could have affected the ratings...
  • redd96 · 2 months ago
While I personally may continue to watch this show, I'm just going to watch to see where the story goes. Am I stoked about it? Not really. If they cancel it, no big loss.

Beyond arguments about ratings, the show has definitely lost its edge. The urgency and focus of Season 1 is gone and it has been nothing but a downward spiral of muddled plots and redundant storylines since then. Talking about redundant, do we really need to see the same (albeit slightly iterated) powers with each new character? Super speed...now with knives. *groan* What about another new Company...er, Carnival, to challenge the New Company?

The last episodes and the finale of Season 3 may have given viewers to look forward to but the 2 hour premier was, to be honest, nothing to buzz about. I don't buy the hype of going back, to showing these heroes the way they were presented in Season 1. They tried to do that at the start of every season only to mess it up repeatedly.

The true mark of an epic is a cohesive story with a plan. It has characters and protagonists that you really care about, enough to see what their fate will be. It is lean and urgent, not bloated with forgettable plots and people. It knows it's start and it sees a glorious end. I've seen that in other series. Let's be honest. Heroes is not and will never be one of them.
  • sendzki · 2 months ago
well there's just much to expect with Heroes this time...and im looking forward to it...it just saddens me to read this bad news though, but i hope Kring and the rest of the team will find a way out to go through this
  • Dane · 2 months ago
Maybe the low ratings had something to do with the unbelievable amount of commercials. It was basically 2-3 minutes of show, 5 minutes of commercial over and over. Seriously
    dissappointing..

    Hello,

This is a fun of Heroes from Turkey. I love Heroes,
and I should say that I really like this new season.
I cant believe that the ratings of heroes are such low. But even if it was lowest in premiere, I am sure it will be getting better in following weeks.
  • Joe · 2 months ago
I think its Time to Change from Monday Nights and start advertising heroes more.. and the show needs to pick up rather then drag!!
  • PlayingHeroes · 2 months ago
as long as the show is broadcasted in the same time with House MD, they won't have a good ratings.
House MD episodes are always good (never more never less), Heroes episodes are either very good or bad, you can understand why people prefer House, in the 17 millions of them that watched the second episode of house, there is at least 4 or 5 milions that will watch and love heroes if they don't have the doctor at the same time.

    >_< sorry, i wanted to watch it but both TVs were being stolen TT_TT

I DVR'd House and watched Heroes, but I agree the two shows competing were tough, and as much as I love Heroes, the House Season premiere was incredible and deserved its own audience too.

what is killing heroes is the same story line its always peter vs sylar and claire being some how in the middle people with powers being rounded up by goverment or they will go after goverment its the same story every season people are bored you need to change it up lost changed things up and its better for it house md changed things up this season but heroes is still with the same story here is how season 4 will end peter will duel sylar claire will be caught in the middle and appear to die or maybe not that will be cliffhanger for season 5 if there is one dum dum dum
  • razzledazzle666 · 2 months ago
everyone seems to forget virtually everyone has a PC now. television ratings in general have dropped massively because people can easily watch anything they like via a PC download!

hell.. im in the UK and i downloaded the season 4 opener! what if 6 million other people do the same then dont tune into the show on TV? it doesnt mean people dont want to see the show.. it just means we are impatient and its too convienent to just download it!

anyhoo.. loved the season opener.. a little tired with claire's character but thats my only gripe!
  • lilkunta · 2 months ago
So even though it gets low 6mill ratings in the US, the international ratings will keep it alive?

its all about 'Flash Forward', Heroes first season was worth watching and maybe the third.. the rest have been gettin booooooooring, stupid things with compasses and moving ink and what the hell happened to the irish woman that Peter left in the other future of toxicated earth?

PS: refresh cast, kill more characters off... nathan dying was great

Heroes, should not be canceled, for it's an amazing show.

I've been a fan of Heroes non-stop for the past three years and I love the series.

The show definitely shouldn't be canceled.

Though I do believe that their could be a lot more intresting writing being done.

I know there was a writers protest and all but the amount of money you receive should not affect the quality of the writing or disappoint the fans.

Also, relating to the writing. I blame the writers strike for lost of fans because during the writers strike there were the most unintresting episodes.

In the end, I love Heroes and it's the only show I look forward during the week. Heck, it's the only show I look forward to during the year. It's really an amazing show and I wouldn't want for it to be canceled, so NBC don't cancel the show.

Final thought: Get better writing for crying out loud. Make the writers write good stories intill blisters pop off their fingers.

We love it over in the UK! House starts next week for us and Heroes will be airing at next year some point. Obviously I have already watched all of them and I am very impressed with the new series of Heroes. Everyone knows after a few episodes of story House will return to Patient is sick, every possible wrong diagnosis, house thinks, right diagnosis DINGDINGDING. Heroes has new and exciting powers and a dramatic story line!

    LONG LIKE PETRELLI
  • Patrick · 2 months ago
IF you let yourself have an open mind, this season is much better so far. The acting is much more engaging, the writing is much more personal, and the powers are only getting even better! This season is such a step up from the last 2 volumes that I am truly surprised the ratings are so low.

The thing about this season is that it feels alot more like the first season in terms of quality. Alot of the characters are dealing with their own separate lives again and it has a similar feel to the first season before all of the characters started meeting eachother and interacting. My only problem is that I feel like some characters are missing...
  • Hero101 · 2 months ago
Heroes is'nt making headway because of poor writing (2 guys with flight taking on syler???...a dead nathan petrelli when all they have to do is infuse him with his daughters healing blood like they did her adoptive father???)....hiro dying from his powers????..come on..who needs that kinda tragedy???...i watch heroes to escape reality..not be bummed out all the time..STOP THE EMO STORIES!!..also quit skimping on showing powers, add a little cultural diversity (all of the black characters either died or disappeared with the exception of a cameo of psychic guy...shameful)

So many explanations, so many questions, so much colours when the deaf girl see the sounds... That only makes me wanna change the channel. It's no so dificult to make scripts with a little more of action, more of using powers, more betrayals... That -and super powers- would turn Heroes more watchable. Right now, the deaf girl must be killed in a noisy way to see for the last time the effect of her (lame) power. By the way, Ando's power... Sucks big time!

I've been watching since the first episode and I agree with most of you that after Season 1 the show was pretty disappointing. However, I must say that it's regained my attention when Hiro went back and "saved" Charlie. Plus, Sylar is by far my favorite character and I think it's great that they found a way to give him two story lines. What really has let me down is the need the writers seem to have with introducing us many new characters that we don't care about and not further developing the characters that we love (with the exception of Sylar).

I love heroes. This is one of the best shows on TV. I am currently in Iraq so i get my wife to download the show for me and wait a week for it to get here to watch it. Maybe if they ended the wars we have going on then the ratings would go up b/c alot of my fellow soldiers are hooked on heroes. lol. I too hope that peter gets his full powers back. i love the whole "fight club" scenario going on between sylar and matt. excellent
