Heroes 4.12 The Fifth Stage Discussion Thread
His first name should be Jacob. Jacob was the character in the bible known as the "heel grabber" He stole the birthright of his older brother, worked seven years to earn the right to marry the woman of his choice but when the sisters were switched he worked another seven to get Rebbeca.
In order to secure a blessing from God he wrestled with God until God gave the blessing but caused him to walk with a limp for the rest of his life.
HRG is Jacob, wrestling with the right thing and the immediate. All the while taking lumps to get what he seeks.
Ill honestly hope that the Haitian guy truly is on HRG and Claires side and it isnt a double plot with the company. HRG puts Claires faith into his hands, but Im not sure if we could trust him.. This episode is closing with the Haitian clearing HRGs mind so the Company wouldnt be able to trace his memory and finding out what is really happening. Although I truly hope he wont erase too much, because this otherwise could jeopardize his feeling towards Claire..
anyway re: HRG, I believe he did the right thing. Im just wondering how much memory he asked to be erased
The conflict between loyalty to the company (HRG, "I would do what I have always done: What I'm told.") and the love he has towards Clare.
HRG is a baddie. Regardless of your opinion regarding his actions here. But it was good to see him choose his love of his daughter over his loyalty here.
As the Haitian says she was no longer safe in plain sight and needs to run. This was HRG's only option to keep her from the Company's clutches.
What i would like to know (apart from HRG's first name) is:
Who has authority that surpasses HRG's and is important in Clare's life?????
I'm starting to think the Haitian disobeying HRG, because he thought that keeping her memory would actually protect her more than erasing it.
So, the Haitian wanted to help both HRG and Claire.
If you had children it would be obvious to you that HRGs' main fear is for his daughter. In our lives the fear for our offsprings safety does not show as much, however imagine if you where faced with the horrors HRG faces with regards to his daughters safety, and you will realise that a parent that cares will go to inconceivable levels to protect their loved ones.
Mark my words, he will come out of this saga as a "goodie", even if it takes a while. Its very hard for love for your family to turn you down the path of evil.
I don't think anyone on this show is 100% goodie or baddie. As fans of this show, apparently we're all comfortable with the morally grey.
Seriously though, regardless of right or wrong, what Mr. Bennet did was the only real choice. "I guess the vivisection was starting to get to me." said Claude, if you'll recall. If the company wanted Claire brought in, it was for testing, possibly "destructive." If he'd been able to turn her over for that, after raising her for so long, how would he sleep at night?
P.S. Reminds me of an episode of Firefly... "Man finds out the particulars of our situation, he has a choice." I don't believe H.R.G. truly had a choice either
P.P.S. For those who don't know, vivisection differs from dissection in that you do it while the subject is still alive.
God. From what the Haitian has said in the past, he believes in God, and who has more authority than God?
We get the sense that "The Company" is a government agency of sorts - or at least that what the employees think.LOL This is actually supported in theory by the mere fact that Ted is in the custody of Primatech. (After the type of incident that occurred at the Bennet house one would expect police, FBI etc. to be ALL over those involved yet Ted was in the custody of Primatech!?! Definately seems CIA-ish) Given these employees probably believe they are working for the government and therefore the Greater good of the country, they feel fine with the needed moral ambiguity. As viewers we see the wrong in the actions because be care about the individuals - the "agents" are looking at the big picture- or so they think. This is why there is the evolution for HRG - when he received Claire she was part of the big picture. After rsiaing her, she is just his child- his Carebear.
While I believe HRG was motivated by his love for Claire, it doesn't hurt
The persons is Claires grand mother, when he is speaking on the phone in french it is actuley the petrellies mother, also claires grandmother.
