Heroes 4.12 The Fifth Stage Discussion Thread
At the same time, with all these new villains, we can leave out unnecessary people, and I suppose she fits that bill, but I hope that we do see her come back later on.
I also hope Micah sticks around...or, if he is written out of this series, he comes back in some form in S4.
But they have been cut to give Niki a better storyline I'm sure as many have complained about hers.
Oh well, maybe she'll be back.
If you haven't noticed, superpowers have been out a lot longer than Naruto, so perhaps you're looking at it backwards...THEY stole their power from HER.
=/
A few examples:
DC Comics' Parasite (first appearance 1966)-gains physical and mental upon touch,
Marvel Comics' Mimic (1966)- gains powers and skills of anyone within 10 ft and retains them until 1 mile away,
Final Fantasy 6 (III in US) (1994) - Gogo copies teammates' abilities and Gau copies monster abilities,
and Kirby's Adventure (1993)- Kirby's swallow-and-copy ability.
So really it's silly to say one copied another, because "new" powers are few and far between, and often are derivations or different applications of an archetype. And of course you then look beyond comics and such and get into mythology and religion for even further origins of "power archetypes", or ideas of an ability... Invincibility with Achilles, magic with Merlin, resurrection with Christ and Buddha (talking about the concept not that Christ or Buddha was or was not super powered or came back to life.. so don't think about an religion fight here..).
Basically what I'm trying to say is whether Heroes copied Naruto or not is a moot point.
And yes, Taskmaster and Echo both needed to see someone's moves in order to imitate them.
i hope to god they give her a good worthy run for her money and they dont just fob her off or i will be seriously annoyed! its like "woo lets get rid of linderman the awesome healer and lets introduce Bob the Alchemist, Lets get rid of Monica and her ability and lets make Mohinder spiderman!" i cannot wait for season 3, but i think they've made a HUUUGE mistake here! they got rid of the wrong newcomer for the sake of making a new stupid love story that wont last the season.....BAD MOVE WRITERS!!!! BAD BAD MOVE!
sorry, Rant over...night guys!x
Capslock cruise control for cool.
Just letting her drop out of the story and keeping Maya is a crime.
Dont believe the hype. Kring and his writers have NOT been listening to us.
More new characters, more romance (or "Mo-mance"), more dropped plots....
~Action
A)Peter encounters her to absorb her ability
or
B)Sylar kills her to steal her ability
Even though none of these happened, I was hoping that Monica's character would be given the chance to prove herself to all the New Orleans story haters.
See, instead of killing off every character that is declining in ratings, they should just slowly have them dissapear from the main stream and bring them back later if possible. Because its just getting ridiculous how if there is a character not that important or that fans aren't all that enthusiastic about, they kill them and wait to see what the response is. And if fans don't take to the killing, they some how bring them back. I know its a comic book oriented show and weird stuff happens in comic books where characters return from the grave somehow (Bucky, Elektra, Aunt May, etc.), I'm a fan of comic books, but this is getting stupid.
I don't want to be one of those fans of any series who feels they can do a better job. So far heores hasn't been so dissapointing, its a great show even with season 2. The only thing I would change is the need to kill everybody. What we want to see is great stories like we are getting in the Heroes graphic novels, now those have great stories. If they can just find a way to make Heroes the series and Heroes the graphic novels meet, then they'll have a great mix.
1: The importance put on Sylar. Yeah, I'm sorry but it had to be said. Dont get me wrong, I love the character. But the way its looking in the promos for season 3, he's becoming way more important than he really should. For example, the screen time he got in season 2. He had no powers, but got more screen time than most of the new or main characters. And his story was followed a lot more. He's a villain, and he folowed more than most of the main characters and the only character who it seems to have no chance of dying in the near future, while the other character's lives are in limbo and we don't know if they'll live that week or not. I see there are possible new storylines for his character that probably fit with the new season and will make a whole lotta sense ( it is called villains) but after that I think they need to concentrate on a another villain and 86 Sylar. Maybe Adam Monroe. We'll see.
2: Claire's constant need to be normal. I'm sorry but its getting ridiculous. We can't enjoy the main storyline like the Shanti virus arc, or the other characters because we always end up watching Claire complain about being different. In season 1 her story made sense because she was the main ingredient in the Blowing up New york arc. In season 2, her storyline was more unimportant than the New Orlean's storyline. The only thing that made it relevent was HRG'S conflict with the company. Hopefully this will change in season 3.
That's it, I'm done. If anyone disagree's, you're more than welcome to reply and I will be corrected.
i mean, he is the villain you can sympathise with!
to be honast the way i feel is that is story line throughout both seasons has been the most interesting and is potentially the most dynamic... you could literally take him in any direction and it would work.. though you have to love the badass side to him :P
ok im done.. simply because i cba now
I think I known why they're writing monica out in series, because the fans don't want 2 see a hero that's runs in tights or spandex & they thinks it might ruin the show. I remembered this on g4 last year at comic con preview. Blair butler asked tim kring that's there'll be superheroes comtumes in the show & he says "no". I don't blame him that's he don't want cheesey-ass costumes on the heroes. They don't want 2 ruin the show (& like people whose ruined smallville).
In the end of vol.3, Micah's leaving new oleacn w/ his mom(she's back 2 being plain, old nikki). They left his grandma's house. Monica stays behind at the house. Micah's wondering what's happening 2 his cousin monica. That's my guess what's going 2 happen.
D= You had a cool power, but I didn't like you.
sorry!! lol
I think this is a mistake, they could have done so much with the character (she had potential to go bad too if need be). What a waste, and yet they keep the pointless and irritating Maya (I'm sure the actress is lovely but the character needs a slap)! If anyone from season 2 needn't to be fired it should have been her, I suspect the fact that she was eye candy for the fellas whereas Monica is more a normal looking woman (very pretty but she'd not intimidate most women in the looks stakes).
It's saddening that the writers seemingly haven't taken on board the problems the audience had with season 3. I personally loved most of the series with the exception of the Maya and her brother storyline. Most of the critisism was aimed at Maya and her totally useless power (as my deadpan Mother put it "Why doesn't she just wear waterproof mascara?!" *lol*).
There is no need to keep her in the show other than as something for the blokes to gawk at (which is such a shame as Monica was such a positive character, she was smart, kind, sassy and a really good role model, and it's rare you see such positive black characters in such a universally well recieved show), Maya isn't that positive (she's very thick and bimbo-ish, and there is nothing to her character other than looks. Her power can only be used for evil and the fact that she's not a villain then makes it totally rubbish. For someone who can kill people so easily you'd think the daft woman would grow a thicker skin and stop crying all the time).
Hopefully Monica will not be gone for good and will return once the writers get their brains in gear and write better storylines for her (cos that's really the only problem with her character). I'm very disappointed, I was looking forward to her getting more and better storylines this season, it's a real shame they weren't skilled enough to figure that out and do it. It's rare in the show that a female character isn't scantily clad most of the time and isn't just rated because of her looks, Monica was more than that and I'm gutted to see her go (I hope it won't be for long). >:(
I am inclined to agree with someone who said earlier on that they could have done something else with Niki and Micah Sanders... That whole new Orleans storyline ?? CRAP !!! They were too cut off from the rest of the Heroes universe. I see they dragged Ali's character from it, but left her minority son behind. Kid didnt stand a chance...lol
Yep, that's Hollywood for yah ! Dana, all the best in your future endeavours
But can I just ask. If you hate heroes so much then why are you on this fan site? Go and talk crap on an anti-hero site or something...
As for the Niki and Micah storyline, I thought it was mostly annoying how they were repeating the season one storyline with Niki. Oh dear, ANOTHER personality who endangers Niki and her family. Yawn. I'm happy she's not getting killed off, but I REALLY hope Niki's season 3 storyline doesn't feature any new personalities but a Niki who is in full control of her powers.
And I hope that Maya's storyline gets more interesting too, now that's she finally in New York and in more control of her powers. Maybe some nice revenge on Sylar for killing her brother?
Maya having her brother killed would have been a great plot device but the way she handled it in the apartment (and the fact that she was so stupid she believed he would have left her to go with Sylar) was just painfully pathetic. She'll never get revenge on Sylar, she'll try but she's not strong enough. Even though she's tormented by the fact that crying kills people she still does it every damn time. Her power is terrible and her character is written terribly too. I hope to goodness they give her a couple more braincells in the new series cos currently she and Mohinder are a match made in heaven and I won't be able to watch any of their scenes as they are so infuriating (Sendhil is gorgeous to look at but blimey I jsut want to smack some sense into his character).

monica's character had a potential, it's just that writers probably thought, her power is too general and can mimic any other character's physical skills.
the reason for not being noticed in the Emmy's is the very reason why the season was cut short. it's the writer's strike. what else. but it will pick up im sure.
She had it tough tho. Whereas Maya had an interesting power for simply the sake of mystery, like Niki's was at the start of Season 1, she too lost her edge because her plot was so slow and a one-note actress.. and whereas Elle was integrated very well into the existing world, but lacked depth or pathos... Monica was the best acted female character in the show next to Claire (particularly S.1) or Angela Petrelli... Which is upsetting when she gets stuck with the least interesting characters and then her storyline suddenly jumps into a weak thread when Suresh shows up on her doorstep.
Anyway, I just hope they don't kill her off.. leave her for when they have better stories to work into... Such as if they ever go public on powered people, she could be a good segue if they have her acting the vigilante.. or if someone moves to N.O. to help stave off hurricanes or rebuild, work her in.. or put her in the company believing it to be an organization to help people, and trying to make it that, while others like Elle are more of the bag and tag and kill side of things... Anyway, just don't write off a talented actress such as her.
i think this season will be great because the plot is more interesting.
PS. Anyone else think an empowered, pi$$ed off Caitlyn from the future coming to give Peter heck would be awesome!!!
Monica would have been amazing in series 3 becasue we would see the opposite of her and her real fighter and team member + her power just ruled! and the saddest thing is no-one has met her yet only micah ( now gone aswel!) and nikki ( dead! ((bring her back too!)) use clairs blood or sumthing )
we do need black heroes not just villains and we do need more female heroes .
She was my favourite character and they could have easily tied her into the universe
